Some Gift Ideas for Our Humans
These items are all Etsy offerings; my search parameter was “personalized pet art”.Shown are personalized trinket dishes. Mini oil paintings, coasters, and a large watercolor print. I included the siloette because I enjoy the style, personally, I’d prefer the head only.
I also found needlepoint kits for hand towels and pillows. Because I’m not a crafty gal, my interest is finished products.
I have a mini painting of Winston in a fancy gold frame on my wish list.
Preparing Your Dog for the Colder Weather
Why Seasonal Transitions Matter
Our dogs feel the shift to shorter, cooler days just like we do. November’s cooler temps can energize younger dogs but stiffen seniors' joints. Shorter daylight hours and dry indoor heat can affect your dog’s health and behavior in subtle ways.
Let's prioritize prevention..
Understanding the Health Challenges of Late Fall
When autumn turns to winter, dogs face unique seasonal stressors.
Here’s what to watch for this month:
Joint and Mobility Issues: Cold weather can aggravate arthritis or stiffness in senior dogs.
Dry Skin and Dull Coat: Indoor heating saps humidity, leading to itchiness and shedding.
Weight Gain: Fewer daylight hours often mean less outdoor activity.
Holiday Hazards: Rich foods, chocolate, grapes, xylitol-sweetened treats, and decorations can all pose risks.
Mood Shifts: Less sunlight and shorter walks can impact energy and mood—yes, dogs can get the “winter blues” too!
Understanding these challenges helps us stay ahead—ensuring your dog's health and happiness —that is our main focus, right?
Cool Weather Health Tips
Support Joint Health:
Add glucosamine, omega-3 fatty acids, or collagen to meals (ask your vet for the ideal doses). Keep beds warm and draft-free.
Moisturize from the Inside:
Include salmon oil, flaxseed, or sardines in their diet to combat dry skin. Regular brushing stimulates the production of skin oils and improves circulation.
Stay Active, Even Indoors:
Try short, brisk walks at midday, puzzle feeders, or indoor scent games to keep your dog's mind and body active.
Protect The Paws:
Use paw balm before and after walks; rinse salt and debris off pads to prevent cracking or irritation.
Holiday Safety:
Keep food scraps, candles, and decorations out of reach. Remind guests not to share table food—even "small bites" can upset digestion.
Wellness Check-In:
It's not necessarily a cold-weather task, but for seniors, a preventive vet check is a good idea.
Begging is about to Commence
My preference is to give my dogs a special dog treat or a little canned dog food for their Thanksgiving meal to avoid any concerns about what’s dog-friendly. My dogs always love a Wilderness Salmon Biscuit or a spoonful of Wilderness canned food blended into their kibble.

Zelda/Ronan - NINE Moyen goldendoodles - ready 01/03/2026
All of the puppies can be held until after the holidays.
Giving a puppy for Christmas is a fun idea, but all the activity can be overwhelming for a new puppy. Instead, consider wrapping cute puppy accessories and a framed photo of the puppy or litter, with a date scheduled for either pickup or selection of the new puppy. This allows humans to enjoy the holiday without taking on new puppy responsibilities until the household settles back into a normal routine..
