Old Mill Sproodles
Old Mill Doodles was the first breeder of Sproodles in the United States, and the name Sproodle began right here at Old Mill.
A Sproodle is a cross between an English Springer Spaniel and a Poodle. They combine the Springer's friendly, people-oriented personality with the Poodle's intelligence and coat characteristics.
We've been raising dogs since 1989 and have enjoyed watching the Sproodle grow from a relatively unknown cross to a much-loved family dog.
Temperament
Sproodles are smart, affectionate and people-oriented dogs. They tend to be playful and social and enjoy being involved in family life.
Their Springer heritage can give them an energetic, fun-loving side, while the Poodle contributes intelligence and trainability.
Health
Good puppies begin with good parents.
Health and temperament are priorities when selecting dogs for our breeding program. Our parent dogs are health screened before breeding, and we also use DNA genetic screening as another tool when making breeding decisions.
Coat & Shedding
Sproodle coats can range from wavy to softly curled, and coat characteristics can vary even among puppies in the same litter.
Our Sproodles are generally low shedding, although the amount of shedding can vary from dog to dog and by generation.
No dog is completely hypoallergenic, and individual reactions vary. If allergies are a concern, we encourage you to spend time with our dogs before choosing a puppy.
Colors
One of the fun things about Sproodles is their variety of colors and markings.
Our puppies may be black and white, brown and white, brindle and white, or occasionally tri-colored. Their Springer heritage often gives them the distinctive markings that make each puppy look a little different.
Size
We raise Mini, Moyen and Standard Sproodles.
Our Minis are generally around 20–30 lbs., Moyens approximately 30–45 lbs., and Standards typically 40–55+ lbs.
Adult weights are estimates, and individual puppies may mature outside these ranges.
Grooming
Sproodles typically have wavy to softly curled coats. Their adult coat develops gradually as they mature and may be different from their puppy coat.
Most families find a shorter coat easier to maintain. Regular brushing and professional grooming help prevent tangles and matting, particularly if you prefer to keep the coat longer.
Starting a grooming routine while your puppy is young helps make brushing, bathing, nail care and professional grooming a normal part of life.
Exercise
Sproodles enjoy walks, playtime and activities with their families. Their Springer heritage often gives them an enthusiastic, playful nature, and they also benefit from activities that challenge their minds.
Puppies need age-appropriate exercise while their bones and joints are developing. As adults, regular walks, play and mental stimulation help keep them happy and well adjusted.
Sproodle or Goldendoodle?
Both can make wonderful family companions, but they aren't exactly the same.
Sproodles often have a little more of the playful, energetic personality associated with the English Springer Spaniel, while Goldendoodles reflect more of their Golden Retriever heritage. Individual temperament always matters more than breed stereotypes, and we're happy to help you decide which may be a better fit for your family.
